Discover Ella

Ella is a hill-country town known for its cooler mountain climate, green slopes and sweeping views across the Ella Gap. The trip offers a contrast to the southern coast, passing through changing scenery as the road climbs towards Sri Lanka’s central highlands.

The Nine Arch Bridge is one of the area’s best-known landmarks. Its graceful stone arches curve through lush vegetation near Demodara, making it a popular place to admire the railway and surrounding landscape. Train movements are not guaranteed during a visit.

Other possible sights include Ravana Falls and viewpoints around Ella, depending on weather, travel time and the chosen itinerary. Comfortable walking shoes and a light layer are useful for the changeable hill-country conditions.
